Day 13 – My Earliest Memory
Ahhhh I haven’t thought of this in years. My earliest memory is more of a sensory memory than a visual one. As is often the case, I have a picture immortalizing it, but it is the feeling of the memory that has stayed with me. A memory of my Grandfather Fry.
I’m guessing I was about 2.5 when this picture was taken. I was 3 when he died. He would let me ‘drive’ the tractor in the garden. We lived close to my grandparents, my dad was in Vietnam from the time that I was 1 until I was 2, so I spent a lot of time with them. I was in his lap in most of pictures of us together 🙂 And that is what I remember – the feeling of his arms around me – safe and loved.
For years after he died my grandmother kept that tractor – My aunt Judy has it now. When I sit on that seat I go right back to being that little girl. I can still feel his arms around my little shoulders and his love!
